Masters timetables and courses
Information relating to timetables and study programs may be found on the display boards of the 2nd floor of the Internef building as well as on our web page. A network of television screens provides regular updates about timetable changes and other useful information.
The MScE program is composed of three modules and lasts four semesters. The first three semesters comprise a collection of compulsory and elective courses. On the third semester, students can chose to participate in an exchange program in another university. The fourth semester is entirely dedicated to the Master thesis.
Students take a series of compulsory and elective courses aimed at reviewing key economic concepts at a technical level. They are a continuation of third-year undergraduate courses in economics. This involves studies in advanced microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and mathematics. Students who want to acquire the BEE specialization need to take the Ecology and Evolution class (plus a math complement).
Courses in advanced theory begin, supplementing the knowledge gained in the first semester in order to comprehensively cover the main areas of modern economics, and provide students the analytical tools required to carry out their own research.
Students who want to acquire one or two mentions need to choose the compulsory and elective courses in a way that is consistent with the study plan for these mentions. Students in the BEE specialization need to follow the BEE lecture series and the course on environmental economics.
It is possible to spend the third semester abroad at one of our numerous partner universities across the globe. Note that the latter option is for students who have passed all the required coursework during the first year (without having to retake exams).
The students' time in the last semester is dedicated to their Master thesis, which is researched and written upon a subject of their own choice with agreement and under supervision of a member of the "Department of Economics" (in case of an external supervisor, a member of the Department of Economics should be specified as external examiner in advance and validated by both the supervisor and the MScE Director). Alternatively, a student may opt to undertake an internship and write an internship thesis as opposed to an ordinary research thesis. The thesis may be submitted at any point during the fourth semester.
The 120 ECTS credits of this Master program are allocated in 4 semesters as follows:
A typical 6-credit MScE course represents 4 hours of lectures and supervised exercises per week, over a 14-week semester. Students should allow up to 8 additional hours per week per course for individual preparation and revision.

During the third semester, students may take part in an exchange program and study at a university recognised by HEC Lausanne. A maximum of 30 ECTS credits can be acquired during the exchange.
