The Clinton Global Initiative University (CGIU) is a University network aimed at engaging students around pressing global challenges in five focus areas:
As a member of the CGIU, UNIL enables its students to take their ideas forward by participating in the network's annual programme of mentoring, exchange sessions, student engagement events, and an annual meeting.
Check out the experience of the UNIL delegation at the San Francisco meetings.
Students, either individually or in groups, apply by creating a Commitment to Action (action plan). These commitments should be ideas and actions that address social or environmental challenges on campuses, in communities or in different parts of the world at a small or large scale.
UNIL students whose projects are approved both by CGIU and UNIL may also win seed funding from UNIL (up to USD 2,000 per project).
Two online information sessions are scheduled:
The CGIU meeting, took place online in 2021, bringing together selected students representing over 75 countries, university representatives, topic experts, and celebrities who share there experience during a day of exchanges. The 2022 annual conference will also take place online.
Projects range from the creation of a soccer ball that generates energy, a post-conflict sports league, a youth nutrition course, an empowerment program for blind and visually-impaired students in Lebanon and many more! Since 2008, students have made more than 4,800 Commitments to Action, and more than USD 1 million in funding has been awarded to these commitment-makers.
Applications are open until 21 January 2022
Applicants must be enrolled with UNIL (bachelor, master of PhD levels) and have sufficient English skills to interact in the programme.
Applicants will be informed directly by CGIU of the result of their application and by UNIL if seed funding is approved.
